It's very important, and in Salon Swift it's fully automated. There are three levels of backup:
- Local - This backs up to the hard drive in the computer. Seemingly pointless it has saved clients in the past.
- External - This backs up to a USB stick plugged into the computer. This is highly recommended.
- Remote - This backs up to our online backup server. It requires an internet connection and is considered an excellent safety net in case something goes wrong with the USB backup.
How do I backup then?
You don't have to is the short answer. As long as you have a USB stick in the computer, Salon Swift will backup for you automatically every couple of hours. If you have internet, it will automatically backup for you each day.
What if I want to change the settings?
You sure can. Simply head to Menu - Admin - System - Backup and change the time frequencies.
The following are highly recommended:
- Internal - Every hour
- External - Every 2 hours
- Remote - Once a day
Is there anything else I should know?
Well, that's basically it. Once setup and the USB stick is in place and the internet connected, the backups just happen without you having to worry about it. Some businesses like to put two USB sticks in their computer, so they get two backups, this is completely up to you.
We recommend having a read on good backup practices if you want to get really serious about it but know the above settings will cover most people, most of the time.
